Paintings and Photoworks

All three artists in this show are graduates from Glasgow School of Art, Eleanor and Louise in 2005 (BA Hons) and Norma in 2003 (MA).  They are linked also by the enigmatic, atmospheric quality of their work; each captures a sense of drama and of the life beyond the surface of the subject.

Louise Chappell:    Paintings which she describes as `post apocalyptic` or `new romantic`, they are landscape based, atmospheric and dramatic,  she manipulates her imagery to create strange scenes and scenarios within the landscape

Eleanor Carlingford Reeves:    Paintings inspired by the artists’ childhood environment in Northern Ireland, they are enigmatic, sometimes humorous – freighted with ghosts and memories, and often with nautical settings.

Norma-Louise Thallon:    Photographic artist Norma uses a great deal of traditional and alternative processes such as pinhole photography, cyanotype and salt printing.  She produces land, sea and cityscapes as well as portraiture. She is very interested in vision and perception, sometimes using pinhole cameras to manipulate perspectives. Many of the more tactile images form the basis of handmade bookworks, which she stitches and binds herself.
